In today’s leading companies, key programs are accomplished by effective and efficient departments collaborating and focusing on common goals.

A well-run and efficient IT organization has the following characteristics:

  • The organization structure empowers the organization to contribute meaningfully to the company’s goals
  • The organization anticipates new business needs and quickly reacts to deliver results; it has credibility as a business partner
  • Users believe they receive value and are satisfied
  • The IT organization is recognized as efficient & cost effective
  • The leader is a good communicator and is respected by subordinates, peers, and top management
  • The department is viewed by outsiders as being “well run”
  • There are clear lines of responsibility which are well understood, with no gaps and few overlaps
  • The IT staff:
    • Find their work challenging and rewarding
    • Know what is expected of them
    • Know their responsibilities
    • Receive constant feedback – they always know where they stand
    • Are empowered to take action when necessary
    • Believe they are treated fairly and their contributions valued
